Application Procedures for the Certificate in Public Policy Studies

1. U.H. students currently enrolled in a graduate program need to send application materials by December 15th, 2007 for Spring Enrollment and August 1, 2008 for fall to:

2. New students applying in the Fall 2008, must submit their applications to the U.H. Graduate Division by March 1, 2008; International students' applications must be submitted by February 1, 2008. See the Graduate Admissions link /www.hawaii.edu/graduatestudies/ for more information. Unclassified students may apply one month before classes begin. Student  applying for Spring admission, must submit their applications to the Graduate Division two months before classes begin.


3. The completed application for the Certificate includes:

The Public Policy Center Application Form
Two letters of recommendation
A statement of interest in this program

A writing sample and
Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. (If already enrolled in the UH, the transcripts may be forwarded by the grad division to the Program)

The Public Policy Center’s Admissions Committee will review the applications and admit or deny admission to the program.

There is no financial aid at this time.

Certificate in Public Policy Studies Application Instructions for Post Baccalaureate Unclassified Students (Not Currently Enrolled in a U.H. Graduate Program)

If you have completed a Baccalaureate Degree and are not currently enrolled in an University of Hawaii Graduate Degree Program, please follow the instructions below.

Furnish the Public Policy Center (PPC) a copy of your letter of acceptance as a post baccalaureate unclassified student. Update your contact information: local address, phone, email, etc.

Please submit official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended.

Prepare and submit to the PPC the Application for Admissions including a statement of interest and learning objectives for this certificate program. (See PDF Application Form).

Request two letters of recommendation from persons who can comment on your academic ability, policy skills and/or interest in policy studies. (See Letter of Recommendation Instructions below and Recommendation Form PDF).

Please submit a writing sample.

Once all the materials have been received, they will be reviewed by the PPC steering committee. The Interim Director will notify you of the committee’s decision to admit or deny admission to the program.

Applications for fall, 2008 must be submitted by March 1, 2008. International students must submit their applications by February 1, 2008.

Certificate in Public Policy Studies Application Instructions for U.H. Classified Graduate Students

If you are already a matriculating graduate student in the University of Hawaii, or have been accepted into a graduate program at the University of Hawaii, please follow the instructions below.

Prepare and submit the Public Policy Center’s Application form including a statement of interest and your learning objectives for this certificate. (See Application Instructions and Admissions Form.) Update your contact information: local address, phone, email, etc.

Please submit official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. The UH grad division will forward transcripts to the PPC if you have already been admitted to the UH)

Request two letters of recommendation from persons who can comment on your academic ability, policy skills or potential and/or interest in policy studies. (See Instructions below and Letter of Recommendation Form PDF)

Please submit a wiritng sample.

Once all the materials have been received, they will be reviewed by the PPC steering committee. The Interim Director will notify you of the committee’s decision to admit or deny admission to the program.

Application materials may be submitted at any time prior to August, 1, 2008.

Application materials may be submitted at any time. They do not need to meet the deadlines for students newly applying for admission to classified graduate student status.

Instructions for Letters of Recommendation

Please submit two (2) letters of recommendation from persons who can comment on your academic ability, policy skills, your potential and/or interest in public policy studies. (See attached PDF form)

Please have these letters sent directly to:
